Type Less With SSH Aliases

Most of the server maintenance I do everyday involves connecting to the server via SSH. This is done thought terminal (Windows users check out Putty) and is pretty standard stuff for anyone managing and tweaking servers. But, having to type commands like

ssh -l username servername.com

can be a bit of a pain with long domain names like innovatingtomorrow.net and geeksandgod.com. This is where SSH Aliases can save a lot of time. To create an alias edit your local ssh config file with a command like:

vi ~/.ssh/config

and add an alias in the form of:

Host aliasname
HostName yourdomain.com
User yourusername

You can have more than one of them. I have one for each of the domains I connect to regularly. Just one little quick tip to type a little less.
